Do I need to solder?
No. 100% of the Coban DIY kit range is completely solderless, using quick-connect plug-and-play wiring. No soldering iron is required.
Finishing
The body is supplied unsealed — kiln-dried and seasoned, ready for you to sand, stain, paint or oil and then finish as you like.

Because many of our wood veneers (spalted maple, flamed maple, quilted maple and burl veneer) feature unique grain patterns, we offer a custom selection service: request photos of 2 or 3 actual kits currently in stock and choose your exact preferred top before dispatch.

If I could, I’d rate this kit 4.5/5, rather than 4 – absolutely love this guitar, the flamed maple looks stunning, it plays like a dream and sounds great too! The tiniest of downsides were:
– One of the wires had come loose from the solderless connector, so had to be re-soldered back in
– The screwholes in the pickguard don’t seem to line up 100% with the holes in the body, but as I’m going to be adding a custom pickguard I’m ok with that – it also looks great with no pickguard!
Also not a criticism, but I swapped out the stock tuners for locking tuners, so can’t judge their quality.
All in all, a great kit and I’m already looking at my next kit from Coban!
